Misawa Day festival

Festivals are really big here in Japan.  HUGE.  They go all out.  Parades, dancing, food, floats, you name it.  And they last at least 3 days.  Gives us something new to do. :)

This festival happened to be going on right outside the main gates of base.  We parked at the commissary and walked out to enjoy all the festivities.  Food vendors lined the streets with local cuisine-fried octupus balls, noodles, chicken skewers, snow cones and almost every booth sold french fries and corn dogs!  They love their American food. :)  We settled on chicken skewers (amazing) and of course a couple of Asahi's (beer) and watched some of the parade.

I wish I was this talented.

They had people dressed up as every character imaginable...Toy Story, Monsters University, Mickey Mouse...and.....well, who knows who or what this is:

This parade went on FOR HOURS.   We walked around waiting for the floats, but they never came.  I found out later those parades were on Friday and Sunday...we missed them both!
Oh well, there will be a next time.

One last video......just for fun. :)
